Ronald Arthur Engelman passed away at home on November 4, 2014. He is survived by his wife Kelly, children Jessica (Nicole) Engelman, Jerico (Stephanie) Donovan, Elizabeth (Kevin) Bussett, and Sara Engelman, grandchildren Dakota and Kylie Donovan, siblings David (Sheila) Engelman, Gerrie (Jim) Kay, and Norma (Francis) Mueller. He was predeceased by his mother, Freida, father, Arthur, and brothers Tom Engelman, William George, and Jim Engelman. He is also survived by his "brothers" Roy, Joey, and Oscar, and many nieces, nephews, friends, family and loved ones from all over the country.
Ron was a San Diego native, born in Coronado and raised in Imperial Beach. He loved his home town, walking into Mexico as a teenager, and being close to the beach (but not going in the water). He graduated from Mar Vista High School in 1967 as a card-carrying member of Colt 45. He started working at RCP Block & Brick as a yard boy at 17, moved his way up to Assistant Plant Superintendent, and recently celebrated his 47th anniversary with the company. It was more than a job to him--it was his second family.
Ron lived in Williams, OR for several years in the 1970s where he enjoyed watching his children Jessica and Jerico grow up and developed his love for gardening. He moved back to Imperial Beach where he met his wife, Kelly, in 1978 at the Tiburon. Kelly and Ron married in 1984 and raised their daughters, Elizabeth and Sara, in IB before moving to Chula Vista. The family spent summers at Starr Farm Beach in Burlington, VT where Ron worked on the family cabin, played cribbage, and enjoyed many black raspberry creemees. Ron coached soccer and, when the girls discovered field hockey, he read every rule book to learn the game. He loved great music, clapping while dancing, puttering in the yard, and growing beautiful succulents. His latest passion was watching his grandchildren play baseball and softball.
He will be missed every day, loved forever, and remembered always.
Please join us to celebrate Ron at 10am on Saturday, November 15 at Glen Abbey Memorial Little Chapel of the Roses (casual "Ron" attire).
