Rosario Vergara Rubio passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2025, at the age of 96. Born in Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippines, she was the fourth of seven children of Isabel Salenga and Dominador Vergara.
She lived through the Japanese occupation of Tarlac during WWII, an experience that shaped her quiet strength and lifelong devotion to her faith. Rosario married Pedro Rubio, a construction foreman from her hometown, on January 12, 1967. Together they raised three daughters, Anne, Liza, and Myrna first in Cotabato City, then back in Concepcion. Her husband, Pedro, passed in 1994, but her devotion to him and to her family never faded.
Known for her grace and talent as one of the best ballroom dancers in her youth, Rosario worked as a seamstress and later ran a small eatery before dedicating herself fully to her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth and generosity touched every generation.
She played an important role in the lives of her eight grandchildren: Eunice; Nicaela Rubio Weems (married to Huston); Jan Babehis (married to Kwin); Jim Babehis (Lesly); Natalia Zhang (Jack); Cainah Babehis (Jomel); Keena Teh (Konstantin); and Czarinah Babehis. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Anika, Xyla, Akio, Teagan, Addieson, and Hazel.
In 2008, Rosario moved to California to be near her family. She loved watching “The Holy Eucharist” and “TV Patrol,” solving word search puzzles, and giving thoughtful gifts to her grandchildren.
Rosario will be remembered for her steadfast faith, loving spirit, and the joy she brought to every family gathering. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, generosity, and love.
She will be deeply missed.
