

Ruth Marie Glass, affectionately known as Ruthie, passed away on December 12, 2023, at the age of 80 in Bonita, California. She was born on August 9, 1943, in Cumberland, Maryland, to her loving parents Andrew Frederick Maphis and Nettie Pearl (Duckworth) Maphis. Ruthie was preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers Raymond, David Maphis, Timothy Maphis, and sister Esther Cover.
Ruthie's faith in God was a guiding force in her life. She shared her faith with others and effortlessly showed God's love to those around her. Her genuine love for others made everyone she encountered feel special.
Ruthie leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her beloved husband Kenneth Glass, her daughters Janet Ryan and Lindy Mashburn (Jim Mashburn), and her grandchildren Benjamin Rothwell (Ashley Rothwell), Brianna McCowan (Brian McCowan), Brittany Ryan Blum (David Blum), Brenton Mashburn (Aava Mashburn), and Chase Mashburn (Sarah Mashburn). Ruthie is also survived by her great-grandchildren Rocky and Nova Rothwell, Bryce, Bailey, and Blake McCowan, Juniper Blum, and Avery Mashburn. In addition, she is survived by her niece Kathy Roy, Sandy Gregory, Debi McClelland, Debbie Marmon, Diane Combs, and Susie Marteney, as well as her nephew David Glass and Vincent Boyd.
Ruthie attended Allegany High School and later pursued higher education at Southwestern College. She was raised in a restaurant where she helped her mother with most aspects of the managing the restaurant. She dedicated 35 years to her career as a bus driver for Chula Vista Elementary School, impacting the lives of countless students. She retired with gratitude and fond memories.
Ruthie found solace and community in her places of worship, which included Central Assembly of God (Maryland), Chula Vista First Assembly, Bonita Valley Christian Center, San Diego First Assembly of God, Faith Chapel, South Coast Church, and Sweetwater Community Church.
Outside of her professional life, Ruthie had a passion for various hobbies. She enjoyed being a Missionette leader, Youth camp cook, singing in the church choir, horseback riding, cooking, gardening, painting, swimming, caring for her brother Tim, and solving jigsaw puzzles. These activities brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 13, 2024 at 10 am. Sweetwater Community Church located at 5305 Sweetwater Road in Bonita, CA 91902. This gathering will honor Ruthie's life and provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together to remember her with love and appreciation. Please ensure to send flowers to the Sweetwater Community Church, the day prior, January 12th.
Ruthie Glass will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, faith, and love will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she touched.
