She lived with her Father, Martin Lundervold and Mother, Bessie Woods Lundervold and sister Marty Kent.
Mom worked at the USO helping the military while getting her BA in business finance.
On November 26th, 1949 she married her soul mate, Floyd Lee Ashton, who was in the navy and she became that hardworking, independent, military wife we all have come to know.
They had a daughter, Linda Lee and Floyd Lee Ashton Junior, moved to Chula Vista in 1954, bought their first home and remained there for over 60 years. Mom found a job at Rohr Industries as a secretary and retired there after 35 years.
With the endless task of being a military wife and dedicated mom, she always she always made time for her children’s activities, and even found time for herself by doing ceramics making many memorable pieces we still have today.
When she retired she traveled with her husband Floyd taking many cruises and enjoying there retirement together.
But as you know Sara was not one to sit and do nothing. She became a member of the Eastern Star, which was her passion and became Worthy Matron more than once, loved being around people who later became great friends and was asked to become Rainbow Mom several times.
She also became a volunteer at Sharp Chula Vista Hospital with Floyd for many years. Sara was an active member of the Community Congregational Church in Chula Vista, serving on several boards and was an usher with her husband Floyd. One of the hardest hurdles she had to try to overcome was losing her soul mate of 63 years, two years ago, but being a Godly woman she did it through the love and strength of God.
Sara was survived by her two children, Linda Ashton Flint and Floyd Ashton Jr,; five grandchildren, Tanya Flint Stanley, Tiffany Flint-Ovando, Adam Ashton, Sara Ashton Beasley, and Nicholas Ashton,; and eleven great grandchildren, Peyton, Hunter, Charlotte , and Kolton Stanley, Amber, Avery, Alexis, Alyssa, and Autumn Ashton, Katie, and Conner Beasley.
Sara passed away happy and peacefully on September 21, 2016 at the age of 86. She was best described as a women of great humility, sweet, gentle and loving, empathetic, Independent, honest, a strong women of God and always had the willingness to help others, a great friend to ALL and she would make you feel special whenever she meant you. She had virtues that are universally admired and she will be deeply missed by all who knew, loved, and respected her.
