William Teso Marcy was born July 23, 1939 and left this earth for heaven July 19, 2022. William is survived by his wife, Carina (née Cocohoba Rorrison); predeceased by their son, Anthony, and survived by their children, Phillip and Melissa; grandchildren Maximilian, Michael (Kate), Nathaniel, Sabrina, Mateo, Annelise, and Andre; great-grandchildren Natilee, Layla, and Summer; half-siblings including George (Berta) Hedstrom and Charles (Maria) Morrissey; several generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews; his buddy, Joe, and good dog, Lukas.
William was born in Cavite City to Sulpicia Teso, a savvy countrywoman from Bohol. He attended parochial school at St. Joseph’s, and their family grew to include his stepfather and brothers George and Gustav, Jr. William enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957 at the age of seventeen and left the Philippines for the US where he became an American citizen and eventually met his wife in Newport, Rhode Island, at the infamous Chinese restaurant.
William and Carina married November 17, 1966 in a judicial ceremony, and celebrated each of their fifty-five years together modestly. The Marcys lived in various cities throughout the country, and finally settled in San Diego, CA, where Bill retired from the navy after twenty years, followed by the US Postal Service after another twenty.
Bill was a soft-spoken, hardworking, family man. Throughout his life, he enjoyed activities such as basketball (playing, coaching, and spectating), singing, sailing, fishing, ballroom dancing, maintaining an immaculate lawn, waterfront strolls, routine trips to the barbershop (same hairstyle his entire life!), playing slot machines, and, more recently, watching music concerts and videos of his hometown via the internet. Bill regularly donated to charity. Above all, he was most proud of his family. He and Carina attended countless sporting events, performances, graduations, weddings; and visited homes and workplaces to show their support. Bill was always concerned about everyone’s well-being and opened his own home several times to family who needed a place to stay while they got on their feet.
Despite having accurate information about his biological father, Bill never met his eponym. However, with the help of a DNA kit in 2019, Bill’s paternal half-brother, Charles, reached out and the two began a relationship that was an added source of comfort and joy in Bill’s final years of life.
Bill managed several degenerative health conditions for many years. Ultimately, he passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home. Please remember him fondly.
