Born and raised in Rochester, New York, John fondly remembered his childhood on a street filled with relatives and neighborhood friends. He escaped the dreary Rochester weather for his education, earning his bachelor's degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and his doctorate from the University of Texas in Austin. His career took him back to the Northeast, where he held R&D positions at Pennwalt, Celanese, and BASF in the Philadelphia area and northern New Jersey. John retired in 2009 and relocated to Bonita Springs, Florida, in 2019.
Gifted with excellent storytelling abilities, John entertained others with tales of his youthful adventures, such as crashing weddings or being across the street during the 1966 sniper attack at the UT tower. His jokes were beloved by all.
John had a deep passion for history, particularly WWII, and enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, playing slot machines (he rarely turned down a trip to a casino), savoring good food, listening to jazz, and reading classic science fiction. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, intelligence, smile, and the twinkle in his hazel eyes.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Nancy, and his loving children, Patrick and Stephanie. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Maria, Jamie, Joseph, Dylan, Allison, and Corey, along with their nine children.
