Carmen Irene Carter, 100, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at The Landmark Community. She was born January 27, 1911 in the Altitude Community to John Archie and Caddie Henson Carter. After high school she worked in the Chancery Clerk’s office and Prentiss County Superintendent of Education office. In 1942 she moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to work as a bookkeeper for Sumpter Farm and Stock , a wholesale dry-goods company, and later for Rosenfeld Paper Company. After the death of her father in 1962, she returned to Booneville to be the primary care giver for her mother. She assumed the position of bookkeeper at Billingley Chevrolet Company and worked there until retirement in 1974. After the death of her mother, she became a much sought after sitter and companion for those who needed her services in the community. During her retirement years, she loved to bake and loved to share with friends and family. Her neighborhood was always a close knit group of very caring families who were always willing to help each other in time of need. Carmen loved and appreciated each one. She especially loved the Gerald Carter Family who gave themselves unselfishly to meet any need. She was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher in the Booneville Church of Christ.
