

James C. “Jimmy” Pharr, 79, of Marietta passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Booneville. He was born September 27, 1934 to Henry Lee and Opal Brown Pharr. He was the Founder and Operator of James C. Pharr Sawmill since 1978. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Little Creek Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and song leader. He was the first recipient of the Prentiss County Goodfellows Award and the first recipient of the Moose Mansil Award for Economic Development in Prentiss County. He served in city government for 20 years, 12 as mayor of Marietta, an early member of Marietta Lions Club, Advisory Board Member of Farmers and Merchants Bank and a long time member and past president of the Prentiss County Development Association.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, February 16, 2014 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Paul Graham, Bro. Ray Bennett, and Bro. H.L. Pharr officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nell Jones Pharr; two daughters, Janet Pounds of Marietta and Norma (Jim) Foster of Booneville; one son, Craig (Lisa) Pharr of Marietta; two sisters, Sara Pharr Wilkerson and Jane Pharr Fagan both of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Bro. H. L. (Vera) Pharr of Thomasville, GA; six grandchildren, Tori (Cassidy) Jumper, David “Bubba” (Diana) Pounds, Brandon Lee (Maria) Foster, Chasity Foster, Matthew Craig Pharr (Fiance' Susie Baker), and Cristin Lee Pharr; and two great grandchildren, Glen Ashton Jumper and Myla Alyse Foster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles Stanley Pharr and a son-in-law, Glen Pounds.
Visitation will be 4-8pm on Saturday and until service time on Sunday at McMillan Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be present and former associates of James C. Pharr Sawmill.
