Some words from her family:
On behalf of the Chin family, we want to thank you all very much for coming tonight and for all the kind words of support and thoughts that you have shared with us. We know that Ling had many friends that we only knew by name so we are glad to meet some of you tonight.
Born in Toishan China, our mother was a 15 years old school girl when my father, his mother, and the village matchmaker picked her out to be his future wife in an arranged marriage.
When asked how he picked her out of all the girls in the school yard, my father answered that she was pretty and the tallest girl in the group in the group. That school must have had a lot of short girls as Ling is not that tall.
Their excellent marriage was an example of love, commitment and devotion. These words were seldom used to describe Chinese couples in the 1950's. As children, we saw an example of how life should be really lived and enjoyed by this couple who just happened to be our parents.
Ling's many roles as mother, relative, and friend is only overshadowed by her role as a wife. Our mother was born in 1932 and it has been 32 years since her husband's life was cut short on the same date ! My parents both passed away on Feb. 24th. We believe that our father wanted his sweatheart back to be with him forever.
To all of you who have been such good friends with Ling and her past and present family members, we thank you for sharing your lives, good times, and personal moments with her. We know that she is ever thankful to all of you for giving of yourselves and your hearts with her. We are also sorry for your loss of a fine and lovely woman. May your memories keep her spirit alive in your mind and hearts.
Thank you all, and God bless.
Richard, Gloria, and Lia
