

Mary was born on May 17, 1920, in Pensacola, FL, to the late Dr. Daniel Francis Maguire and the late Frances Renshaw Maguire. She was the sister of the late Nancy Maguire Watson. Mary is survived by her nephew, Hathaway Watson III, and niece, Marcia Watson, of Sausalito, CA.
Mary earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Radcliffe College and belonged to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She also loved playing and watching tennis matches at the Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, where she was a lifetime member. Mary worked as a representative for hotels located in New England and Bermuda, and in later years, volunteered at several charitable organizations in Cambridge. She made significant donations to the Pensacola Historical Society, the Peabody Essex Museum, and charities dedicated to the preservation of wildlife and the rescue and adoption of homeless pets. Mary’s mind remained sharp through the years. She was keenly interested in family genealogy and was fond of telling stories of the exploits of her ancestors. She could also recite at length poetry that she had memorized as a schoolgirl.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 24, at St. Paul’s Church in Cambridge. Interment will follow at Holyhood Cemetery in Chestnut Hill.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Buddy Dog Humane Society in Sudbury.
