Born in South Carolina, Miriam was the second of four children born to Commander Walter Michael Vincent, USN Retired, and Thelma Theresa Poulin Vincent. As a Navy family, the Vincents lived in several locations across the United States before settling in Springvale, Maine, where Miriam graduated from Sanford High School.
A dedicated scholar and physician, Miriam earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine in 1966 and went on to attend Tufts University School of Medicine, where she specialized in radiology. Her medical career began at the VA Hospital in Boston, where she eventually became the assistant director of the radiology department. After retirement, she also served at New England Baptist Hospital. Dr. Vincent was president of the Massachusetts Radiological Society and contributed her time and expertise to several committees within the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Vincent made her home in Boston’s North End and was an active member of St. Leonard’s Parish. She was deeply committed to her faith, frequently volunteering her time at the church, often participating in readings and services, and her steady presence became a recognizable part of parish life.
Miriam found joy in cultivating a community garden in the Fenway area, where she grew and shared vegetables with friends and neighbors for decades. A passionate traveler, her journeys took her to China, Egypt, Italy, and England, where she often visited her lifelong pen pal Yvonne, a friendship that began through the Girl Scouts as young girls. Every spring, she made time for a two-week getaway in Aruba.
Miriam was predeceased by her parents, her brother Michael Vincent of New Hampshire, her nephew Michael Vincent Jr. of Maryland, and her brother-in-law Patrick V.J. McLaughlin of Maine. She is survived by her sister Margaret V. McLaughlin, her brother Robert Vincent, sister-in-law Sue Vincent, nephew Colin McLaughlin (Jennifer), niece Caitlin McLaughlin (Joseph Levin), niece Debra Krick (Bob), as well as four great-nieces and nephews.
A morning visitation will be held in the J.S. Waterman Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial St., Boston, on June 6, 2025, from 9am to 9:40am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Leonard Church, 320 Hanover St., Boston at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Miriam’s memory.
