Thomas Maguire

11 noviembre, 1956 – 7 diciembre, 2022
EN EL CUIDADO DE

J.S. Waterman Langone Chapel

Thomas Maguire passed away December 7, 2022, at Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by many friends and family. He was the son of Thomas J and Katherine Richards Maguire. He had an accounting degree from Johnson and Wales College in RI. He leaves his sisters Katherine, Sharon (Alan) and Colleen, and a stepsister Sally Munn. Three brothers Dennis (Joyce), Kevin and Richard (Lisa) and a stepbrother William Carpenter. Tom set out to be everyone’s favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews: Kelsey (Scott), Haley (Zach), Courtney (David), Moniquia, Tameka, Andrew, Kaden (Shane), Kyra, Jake, Caroline, William, Matthew, Robert and Hiram. He continued the tradition with his great nephews and nieces: Faye, Mila, PJ, Aeyden and a soon to make his appearance in March, his newest great nephew Kellan. He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother Virginia and partner of 24 years James Pfeiffer who passed away August 2020. Tom also had two cats Happy and Benny.

Tom was a wonderfully unique individual who saw the best in everyone. He loved people and traveled widely to experience other cultures and peoples. He learned the basics of numerous languages in order to speak with others in their native language. He had many interesting tales to tell about the fun traveling adventures he and his beloved partner James shared throughout the years. With his kind soul and quick laugh, he made friends easily. Friends and family knew him as an energetic, positive and generous person.

Even though Tom was a world traveler, two of his favorite places were his adopted hometown of Boston and Provincetown. He vacationed in Provincetown frequently and every summer met up with family members to experience the beach and other joys Provincetown. An avid swimmer, Tom would swim for miles along Herring Cove. He especially loved whale watching out of Provincetown and could recognize many of the humpbacks who frequent the area. His favorite whale was Niles. Once when a group of dolphins stranded themselves on the beach, he helped carry them back to sea. He was always willing to pitch in when someone needed help.

Tom was very involved in his community. He would volunteer with numerous charities and other causes. For many years he swam in the Swim for Life in Provincetown. He would water newly planted trees in the neighborhood for We Tree Boston. Tom was often seen picking up trash and shoveling out fire hydrants after a storm to help keep the neighborhood safe and clean. He loved traveling and learning about other cultures, he would try anything once. Many of his friends told stories of his “get to know your neighbor” parties in his building. When at Johnson and Wales College, he always reminded you that he went to school with Emeril Lagassee. Though he didn't start out as a good cook when first living on his own he did become a great cook. He enjoyed going on whale watches and swimming out at Spectacle Island. He enjoyed bringing his nieces and nephews to the beach and would check the temperature of the water before swimming. A lifelong fan of the Red Sox when young he collected baseball cards and would know every player’s stats.

Private memorial services will be held in the spring with some of his closest friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Tom’s name to The Center for Coastal Studies (https://coastalstudies.org), We Tree Boston (https://wetreeboston.wixsite.com/we-tree-boston/home) or The Nature Conservancy (https://www.nature.org/en-us/)
