

Born in Pingshan district, city of Shenzhen, China, and raised in the British Colony of Hong Kong. Yat Sing (Ivan) was born to the late Tsang Man-Tsun and Yau Fa -Tai. Ivan's great grandfather, Tsang Hawk Tin, was the Governor of The Tiger's Gate (Town of Humen, City of Dongguan, China) during the turbulent time of the Opium Wars in the mid 1800s. One of Ivan's relatives, Tsang Shang (aka Zeng Sheng), was the Mayor of Guangzhou in the 1960s and the Deputy Governor of the Guangdong Province and in the 1970s as the Vice-Minister of Transportation in China.
Ivan was educated in South China Normal University with a Physical Education major. After college, Ivan was a seaman for one of the prestigious ships traveling around the world followed by a long career in hotel management in Hong Kong.
After retiring, Ivan and his wife joined their children and family in Boston and moved to their Fenway residence in 2002. He became a bit of a historian researching many topics and was a lifelong advocate for democracy throughout the world, and especially in the U.S. and Asian countries. Ivan was an expert in the modern history of China (1900 - current) and the two world wars. He was a member of Hong Kong Seamen's Union. Throughout his life, Ivan was a strong advocate of exercise and healthy eating as he jogged and walked for two hours daily, well into his senior years.
Yat Sing (Ivan) is survived by his wife of 70 years, Chau King Szeto Tsang, his two sons and a daughter, Jimmy Tsang and his wife Carmen Yiu of Quincy, Angela Tsang Mah Rooney and her husband Dennis Rooney of Boston, Garry Tsang and his wife Kai Tan of Quincy, his four grandchildren (Hilaire, Annette, Gordon and Isaac) and four great grandchildren (Lucas, Cyrus, Hadrian, and Hazley).
The family would like to thank the Presentation Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center staff who treated Ivan like he was a part of their family.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the memorial service at the event facility of La Cantina Italiana, 911 Waverly Street, Framingham, on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Reception will follow immediately after the service in the same location.
