Helen Mae Prior

BOURNE – Helen Mae (Setterlund) Prior, 96 of Pocasset (formerly of Brockton) died peacefully at Sippican Healthcare Center on April 21, 2023 at age 96. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was happily married to the late Leon Vernon Prior for 63 years. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Eva and Elmer Setterlund and graduated from Brockton High School in 1945. She then continued her education taking additional business courses.

Helen was a stay at home mom raising her 3 children until 1967 when she became the secretary of the Brockton Huntington School for 20 years.

She was also an active member of the Brockton First Baptist Church and involved with several women’s clubs.

She loved spending time with her family, gardening, reading, walking the Cape Cod Canal, and socializing with others. She was also very eager to strike up a conversation with anyone she came in contact with! After moving to Pocasset in 1991 she became an active member of the Bourne Methodist Church. Helen continued to be very active even after becoming legally blind in 2000.

Helen is survived by her children, Sandra L. Tarentino and her husband Leon of Raynham, Keith V. Prior and his wife Lee of Taunton and Donna G. Downarowicz of Pocasset, seven Grandchildren, Michael Tarentino and his wife Marie, Scott Tarentino, Stephanie Lattenzio and her husband Adam, Gregory Prior, Matthew Downarowicz and his wife Brighid, Jason and Caitlin Downarowicz and five Great Grandchildren, Damien, Joey and Cole Tarentino, and Rowan and Oakley Lattanzio, and another one on the way.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday May 2, 2023 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. in Bourne. Funeral services will be at 11am on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at the Bourne United Methodist Church, 37 Sandwich Road, Bourne, followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
