James was born in East Weymouth to Hartwell C. and Gertrude (Hunt) Nesbitt. He grew up locally, attending area schools and graduating from North Weymouth High School. After High School, James heard the Call of Duty, enlisting in the U.S. Navy to serve our country during World War II. After serving our country as a member of the greatest generation of Americans, James returned to civilian life. James began work in Grossman’s Warehouse and worked his way to Manager of Warehouse Distributions as one of the largest providers in Massachusetts. He worked there for 43 years. In 1989, he and his wife Paulene retired to Plymouth, where they continued to provide love and support for their family.
James had many passions throughout his life. He loved to hunt, especially deer, and fishing particularly in Danforth, Maine where his father was from. He was an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. When he was young he was a great baseball player, hoping someday to play in the major leagues. The greatest joy to James was spending time with his family and friends. He adored his grandchildren, and had a particularly strong bond with both grandchildren, Thomas and Katie Murphy, caring for them for many years while young.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Paulene of 43 years, father to Laurie A. (Mack) Murphy and husband James of Plymouth, Julie M. Valiton and husband Brian of Watertown, Jeannette T. Keefe and husband David of Roxbury, Jamee B. Flynn and husband Michael of Warwick, RI, and Janice E. Nesbitt of Florida. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. James is predeceased by his daughter Joy H. Caruso of Brewster, sisters Ruth (Nesbitt) Martell, Bertha (Nesbitt) Cody, and his late brother Perley Hartwell Nesbitt.
