4, 2019 in Mashpee, MA. She was born March 13, 1932 in South Boston, MA, to John J. Walsh and
Jeanne (Wauters) Walsh and later moved to Dorchester, MA, until her marriage.
Jeanne met her husband, Maury, in Quonset Point, RI, when he was studying to be a Navy aerographer
in 1954. Stationed in Port Lyautey, French Morocco, soon after they married in March of 1955, this was
the first of many moves Jeanne would manage as a Coast Guard officer’s wife. Over the following years,
Jeanne made their home in Dorchester MA, South Weymouth MA, Bowie MD, Alameda CA, New
Orleans LA, and Quincy MA.
Jeanne’s hospitality was legendary. In her home there was always “room for one more”. She was never
happier than when her home was filled with family and friends and she was acting as tour guide to the
cities and sites she loved, especially Boston. Jeanne was a very proud Bostonian!
Jeanne loved to read, always won at cards, and enjoyed a lucky day at the casino. She had a passion for
history and education. She worked for over a decade as a Park Ranger and Interpreter with the National
Park Service at the Adams National Historic Park in Quincy, Longfellow Historic Site in Cambridge, The
Kennedy Birthplace and the Frederick Law Olmsted Sites in Brookline. Jeanne pursued education her
entire life earning a teaching degree from Bridgewater University, a certificate in electronics from the
Franklin Institute of Boston and earning a Masters degree in Adult Education from the University of
Massachusetts at Boston.
Jeanne survived her husband, Maurice R. Dumas, of 62 years. She was a loving and proud mother of six
children, Marie (John Felicetti) of New Rochelle, NY, Steven (Carol) of Quincy, MA, Amy of Bridgewater,
MA, Jennifer of Assonet, MA, Janine (Paul) Donovan of Falmouth, MA, and John (Jennifer) of Brockton,
MA. She will be fondly remembered by her 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle, Amanda, Evan, Jakob, Jack,
Julianna, and Max. Jeanne will be missed by her family, Andre and Sandra Dumas of Ballston Spa and Eileen Dumas of Glennville, NY, and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
