

Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather
MASHPEE – John J. Donovan, husband of the late Ann B. Donovan, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2012.
He leaves behind his four children and their families: John Jr. and Barbara Donovan, Marie Stokinger, Daniel and Janice Donovan, and
Janet and John Quinn. He was the loving grandfather to Keith Stokinger, Kurt Stokinger and his wife Janella, Amanda and Ashley Donovan, Ryan, Kevin and Danielle Quinn, and the proud great grandfather of Camden and Ashden Stokinger.
John was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts to the late James B. and Ellen F. (Sullivan) Donovan. John’s professional career was in the insurance business, working for both John Hancock Insurance and American Hardware Mutual Insurance Company.
Besides the love for his family, John’s legacy is exemplified by his profound dedication to the Knights of Columbus. In 1964 he became the Grand Knight of Norwood Council #252. As he continued through the chain of command he became the State Deputy in 1978 and was then appointed Vice Supreme Master of the 4th Degree on October 1, 1981. He was the 1st Massachusetts man to hold this position in 50 years. In 2002, John completed 50 years of service with the Knights of Columbus.
John retired to Cape Cod where he helped establish Bishop James L. Connolly Council, #9444, in Sandwich, Massachusetts and became a charter member. John touched many lives and made many friends which he held dearly through those years.
Formerly of Norwood, Massachusetts, John and Ann retired and enjoyed the serenity of Cape Cod making their home in Sagamore Beach and most recently in Mashpee.
Visiting hours will take place at the Nickerson~Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA 02563 on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Corpus Christ Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Road, E. Sandwich, MA on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
