Sanna, III and his wife Mariya (Tronina) Sanna of Sagamore Beach, and Tamara (Sanna) Lifrieri and her husband Carmen Lifrieri of Plymouth; his seven grandchildren: Randy, Geoff, Ashley, Ricky, Tyler, Toni, and Joel; and nine great-grandchildren: Rockwell, Anya, Freya, Andrew, Kaylee, Elijah, Lucia, Emilia, and Reagan.
Born in New Canaan, CT on February 26, 1934, he was the youngest son of the late John A. Sanna, Sr. and Teresa Peretti Sanna, both from Italy. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and retired 20 years later as Master Sergeant on Otis AFB in 1972 after being stationed in England, the Azores, Greenland, Thailand, Vietnam, and several U.S. bases throughout his military career.
John and his wife settled in Buzzards Bay in January 1963 where they raised their family and became active in their community. Upon retiring from the USAF, John began a 23-year career with the Buzzards Bay Water Department, retiring in 1995 as the Water Superintendent. In addition, he also held positions on the Planning Board and as Water Commissioner for the Buzzards Bay Water Department.
He was very active in his local chapter of the DAV (Disabled American Vets) serving voluntarily as Commander for several years. He very much enjoyed visiting other veterans in nursing homes in the Cape Cod area delivering cards and gifts during the holidays. He also served on the Barnstable County Water Utilities Association Scholarship Committee.
In John’s younger years, he enjoyed coaching youth duckpin bowling leagues, participating in the men’s bowling league, gardening, music, spending time at the Elks club and the VFW, working as a car mechanic, and serving as an usher at the New Testament Church in Cedarville.
He spent his last year at Keystone Place Assisted Living in Buzzards Bay where he thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the staff and residents with his witty remarks and suggestions.
The family is truly grateful to the staff at JML Care Center in Falmouth, MA and Keystone Place at Buzzards Bay for their exceptional care, compassion, and support! In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the DAV (Transform Veteran Lives - DAV (Disabled American Veterans)).
