

Joseph C. Stowers, 94 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at home surrounded by family. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Mary E. (Scales) Stowers and his infant daughter Mary.
He was born on October 12, 1928, the youngest of 8 children of Winslow and Christy (Grant) Stowers in Norwood, Massachusetts. At 17 years old he joined and served in the United States Army.
He worked many years for R.H. Scales in Boston, where he met his wife, “Bette”. He then worked for Owatonna Tool Company which took him to New Jersey in 1963. He remained in New Jersey until 1984 when he then returned to Massachusetts. He had a great love for boating and the Jersey shore. He was quite a “do it yourselfer” and transformed the summer cottage in Pocasset into a lovely home in which many fond family memories were made. All will remember his great laugh and his many words of wisdom.
He is survived by his children, Beverly Barrows and her husband Michael of Mansfield, MA, Robert Stowers and his wife Mary of North Providence, RI, Dawn Johnson and her husband Robert of Laurence Harbor, NJ, Glenn Stowers and his wife Paige of Walpole, MA and Leigh Mohan and her husband Philip of Pocasset, MA. In addition, he leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Michael Jay, Joseph, Robert, Ryan, Christopher, Constance, Ashley, Kinleigh and Jack as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
His visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. Burial will be private.
