Julia Breckenridge Stewart, known fondly as Breck, was born on the 19th of January 1949 in Starkville, Mississippi. Breck’s father, Robert Stanley Majure Jr, worked for Texaco which allowed Breck to live all over the world in her childhood years. Before the age of nine she lived in Alabama, Texas and Louisiana. She then moved to France, Australia, Lebanon and then to Libya where she graduated high school. Breck attended Rollins College and the University of Texas at Arlington. She graduated with a degree in psychology in 1979.
Her beloved husband, Dr. George Stewart, was a professor of parasitology. Together, they founded the Phoenix Bird Rehabilitation Center in Arlington, Texas. They dedicated their lives to animal welfare—adopting, rescuing, and rehabilitating countless animals throughout their many years together. Breck and George traveled the world and cherished every moment of their life side by side.
Breck loved all animals beyond words, especially her dear horses, cats, and dogs. She spent many of her days surrounded by her beloved cats and the wildlife that visited her garden.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert (Buck) and Julia (Moose) Majure; her husband, George Stewart; her brother, Mike Majure; and all of her cherished dogs and cats.
She is survived by her older brother, Robert, and his wife, Ilham, along with their children Nadeem, Maysan, Nada, and Dana and their spouses; her younger brother, Donald, his wife, Gelynn, and their daughters Shelby and Paige and their spouses; and her sister-in-law, Mary Majure.
Breck will be remembered fondly by her family and many friends for the joy, kindness, and love she brought into their lives.
In her memory, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to an animal shelter or animal rehabilitation center of your choice.
