Martha Jane Mutchler

Martha Jane Mutchler from Natick, MA and Blackwood, NJ died at Bourne Manor on October 30, 2011 at the age of 93. She was born at the family homestead in Chester, Montana on June 16, 1918 to the late Lewis J. Mutchler and Edith May Henneberger. In 1919, the family moved to Blackwood, NJ. She studied theater, dress making at the Berte Fashion Studio in Philadelphia, PA, and electronics at Temple University. She was a mechanic and electrical inspector for the Department of the Navy prior to her enlistment in the Navy in November of 1943. During World War II, she held the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class Petty Officer until her honorable discharge in 1945. While stationed in Quonset Point, Rhode Island she met her former husband, Robert Porter Lowe and together they had seven children: Robert P. Lowe of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Priscilla Lowe Koleshis of Bourne, MA, Thomas James Lowe of Oceanside, CA, Patience Lowe of Colrain, MA, Prudence Lowe of Amherst, MA, Timothy Lowe of Bourne, MA, and Mark Lowe of Gastonia, NC. She was also the adopted mother of many. Besides her children, survivors include her sisters, Florence Warrington of Seminole, FL and Emma Mutchler of Teaneck, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way) and more nieces and nephews than we can count. Her brothers, James Mutchler of Runnemede, NJ, and Thomas Mutchler of Bethlehem, NJ and her sister, Maude Reno of Flagstaff, AZ preceded her in death.

She loved to swim, dance, sew, read and spend time with her family. She was a caring and loving mother who sacrificed everything for her family and friends and was loved and respected by many. She will be sorely missed.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Bay Alliance Church, 40 Cypress Street in Buzzards Bay on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11 AM. All are invited to attend and a luncheon and Celebration of her Life will be announced at the service.
