Enjoyed living in Weymouth and Cape Cod
Pocasset – Philip Joseph Mercier of Pocasset, formerly of Weymouth, died peacefully on Friday July 20, 2012 at the age of 92.
Born in Rumford, Maine, volunteered to the Army, 1944, fought in World War II, The Remagen Bridge, Battle of the Buldge. After the war ended Philip moved to Weymouth, MA, were he was a welder for Bethlehem Steel and then Welding Supervisor, with Nuclear Submarines at General Dynamics Shipyard, Quincy, MA.
Philip resided in Weymouth, and enjoyed a summer cottage at Park Wood Beach, Wareham, MA, for many years. In 2010, Philip moved to Pocasset, Cape Cod, where he enjoyed many events with his family at the Kingman Yacht Club, Cataumet. He loved sports, flowers, gardening and good food. He enjoyed passing the time watching the soaring Osprey Birds and the boats pass by.
He was the husband of the late Mildred T. (Marshall) Mercier, and brother to the late Thomas Brady of Connecticut. He was the beloved father to Cheryl Mercier-Ferrara and son-in law Dale Ferrara of Pocasset, Michele (Mercier) Reardon and son-law Larry Reardon of Quincy; and grandchildren, Chase and Chaleigh Reardon. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Lucky.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 24, 4 to 8 p.m. at The Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, Bourne, MA. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 10:00 a.m. at same location. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at The Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:30 a.m.
