Richard White

Dick was born and raised in Dorchester to the late Woodrow F. and Elizabeth (Betty) White (Wright). He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and his Master’s degree from Anna Maria College. He was a Bourne Police officer, and then went on to become a Massachusetts State Trooper. He retired as a sergeant after 33 years of service.

He was a member of the Bourne Recreation Committee for years, volunteered for Bourne Youth Baseball, Bourne High School Hockey Boards and Blades booster club, and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Scallop Festival. He also helped with various charity golf tournaments and Toys for Tots each year. He will always be remembered for doing what he could to help anyone. However, he most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Dick will be greatly missed by his wife Jean L. White (Philbrick), son Timothy White and his wife, Rebecca of Mattapoisett, and daughter Kim Colella and her husband Michael of Sagamore Beach. He was the proud grandfather of Carly Colella, Fiona and Woodrow White. He is also survived by his brothers, Rev. David White of Boston and Paul White of Sandwich.

Visitation hours will be on Thursday, August 31st from 4:00-8:00 pm at St. Margaret’s Church in Bourne. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1st at 10:00 am at St. Margaret’s followed by a burial at Sandwich Town Cemetery, Sandwich MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or American Cancer Society.
