Carol Ann Clancy, affectionately known as "Mom", "Grandma", "Aunt Carol", "Clancy", and yes, even "Gibby" in her younger days, passed away on Saturday May 24, 2014, at the age of 76. Carol was born in the Bronx, New York, in November 1937, as Carol Ann Giblin and was the fifth of six children born to Austin Francis and Florence Veronica Giblin. She grew up in Woodside, NY, where she graduated from William Jennings Bryant High School with the skills to become an excellent secretary/administrative assistant. In Woodside NY in the 1950's, neighbors were friendly and often babysat for each other, ran errands for each other, did each other's hair, and wrote letters to service members overseas to remind them of home. Carol began writing to Charlie Clancy at the request of his sister-in-law and neighbor Kay Clancy when he as serving in Korea. Carol and Charlie became pen pals and when Charlie arrived home safely from the "conflict"; they grew into friends and fell in love. The two were married on May 10, 1958, and remained partners until his death in 2001. The couple had two boys while living in New York, Patrick and Stephen, and moved to Greenbelt, MD, on Labor Day Weekend of 1968.
Once settled in Greenbelt, Carol became an avid bowler, was active in the Cub Scouts, played catcher on softball teams, and was a proud member of a local charitable organization known as the Amicus Club. She had a strong Catholic faith and spent many years involved in church activities. Carol was a working mother; when she moved to MD, her first job was at the Robert J. Brady Company, a family owned printing business. From there, she went onto to become an executive assistant to heads of other businesses in the Graphic Arts/Printing Industry. She retired after 30 years and moved to Queenstown, MD, in October 2005.
Carol is pre-deceased by her husband Charlie Clancy, and siblings Raymond, Francis, and John Giblin, Marion Finn, and Veronica Parle. She is survived by her son Patrick and daughter-in-law Vicki of Queenstown, MD, and her son Stephen and daughter-in-law Sheri of Charles City, VA. Carol is survived by her loving grandchildren; Alyson Clancy Ruff and her husband Nicholas Ruff, Austin Clancy, Shea Clancy, and Samantha Clancy. She always appreciated her many friends and family members who were very kind to her with their prayers and presence and considered each of them to be a blessing throughout her life. Carol was a friend of Bill W.who taught her to live "one day at a time." Let us never take a single breath for granted...
