Have known Harriet from way back in the early 90's. I did some group cross country skiing in NH and VT. and Harriet was part of our group. She was one feisty lady. Young at heart. Wether on the slopes or at her beach house, we had some fun times together. Became good friends and always corresponded on birthdays and holidays. Though her large family was always primary in thought, she was determined to lead a full life and that she did indeed.

Anyone who ever had the great fortune of meeting Harriet and spending camp time with her could never have forgotten her and her seemingly endless source of energy.  She was an outstanding role model for living life to its maximum and how to have a positive outlook on life!  I'm sorry for your familys' loss, but pleased to hear she wasted no time getting to her campsite in Heaven! Hike on, Harriet!

I have such fond memories of Harriet from Mountain Nature Camp (Terra Alta,WV). 
But the best, was when I overheard one twenty something young man ask his friend if he hiked to the top of Seneca Rocks, the other man replied" I had to, some little old lady passed him up and if she could do it , he had to" The little old  lady was Harriet of course. 
I am so sorry  for your loss and that this lady has left this earth.

Two especially dear attributes of Harriet: 1) when she said, 'hey, how are you?' she meant it - she listened, she cared, she treated you like family; 2) there was a world class athlete hidden in that petite, seemingly fragile frame - she shot hoops and sank baskets with dudes more than twice her size, power-walked mile after mile, and cross-country skied with those decades younger. She was a go to person at the Library of Congress, a go getter ever after, and a wonder and inspiration. Heartfelt condolences.

The universe seems less brilliant now with the loss of Harriet's smile. I always told my David that she was what I wanted to be when I grew up -- a wonderful, loving and vibrant woman! I'll missed seeing her and hearing all of her wonderful stories and adventures.

We were saddened to hear of Aunt Harriet's death.  Harriet was a wonderful correspondent over the years, and I was so touched that she kept in contact with Jeff and me after Anne died.  It was comforting to maintain a connection to the family.  I enjoyed hearing about Harriet's adventures, and it was clear she adored her family.  I will miss Harriet the Hiker. I join with so many others in celebrating a life well lived and mourning the loss of a dear friend.  Harriet and I worked together at the Library of Congress and remained in touch all these years after she retired.  She set an example for all of us as we age -- keeping involved, taking on new challenges and living life to the fullest. Sorry to hear Aunt Harriet has passed away, the last of Burt's children, and the matriarch of a mighty clan.

We were so saddened to hear of the passing of Harriet.  She was like another grandmother in the lives of our daughters.  We loved talking with her at family get-togethers and hearing stories of the past.  She loved life and was an inspiration to all of us.  She was a loving and caring woman who loved her family and she will be missed so much.  God Bless you, Harriet and may your memory be eternal.  We love you!

My adventurous spirit and desire to always be outside comes straight from Grandmom. I will never forget her "wine time," (although I witnessed her drinking a Manhattan once), all the Ocean City memories, and her trips to visit us on our live aboard boat and to our house with 150 steps. She loved life (and wine) more than anyone I know. She inspired my love of hiking and using nature, or the space between two parked cars, as a bathroom. I will miss her spirit, vitality, and passion. Love you Grandma!

How lucky her family is to have had such a wonderful Mother. We were privileged to know her and call her Mom even tho we were just friends. We loved hearing her stories about her life growing up and all of her accomplishments. We thank GOD we were able to share her one more time before her stroke. We will never forget her.

Mom will always be the heart of our family. Her light will continue to shine on, through us. She was an incredibly amazing woman, and my life as her daughter has only grown happier, having her in it. Hello, this is Peggy Roth, Mildred Wagner's Sister and I would like to express my condolences on the passing of Harriet. She was very special to me as we would send each other cards on special occasions, spent time together at Ocean City years ago and I would go out to lunch once in awhile with her and Mildred.
