Jim was my very first supervisor at the Passport Office in downtown D.C. in the early '70's.  I met Jim when I was 17 years old.  He was the kind of person that you could never forget -- hard working, diligent, fun-loving and he always kept you laughing. My deepest condolences go to the Stanley family.  He will be truly missed.

I looked forward each morning seeing his smiling and cheerful face.  He could always make you laugh. Jim was a reservoir of knowledge.  You could almost always withdraw something you needed from him.   I would tell him that I would say an extra prayer, especially for him each Sunday and he would smile. I will continue my memory of him in that way.  I have thought of him oftem since he retired. God bless his soul and may his guarding angel guide him up the stairway to heaven.  Farewell Jim.  My Prayers are with each and everyone of his family members.

What will I remember about Jim?  His love of family - oh how he loved those grandchildren,-  his smile, his voice, his jokes, his booming laugh, the way he could make you laugh when what you really wanted to do was cry.  I wish he could do that right now.  He's left a huge void.

Mr. Stanley touched so many of us here in Miami in different ways.  He lived his life and he loved his family. For all the years I knew him, it was always about his family.  He was my mentor, supervisor and friend.  My heart is full and I can't express the impact that he has had on my life.  It is a true saying that some people are in your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. He has been apart of my entire working life. Mr. Stanley was passionate and loved his work.  I will truly miss him.  I will always hold my memories of him close to my heart.  May God continue to bless you and your family.

I meet Mr. Stanley in 2006 at the New Orleans Passport Agency and every time he visited our Agency he brought a ray of sun shine with his hilarity sprit to a place that had been so devastated the year before. My condolences go out to his family ,thanks for sharing such a happy soul with us.

Jim was a unique combination of gruffness, humor, sincerity, wisdom, hard work, hard play, and compassion.  He had little patience for the superficial pretenses which often characterize work in DC but always respected and accomplished any mission he was given. He was a great colleague and friend and I will miss him terribly. My deepest sympathy to you all and please know that his memory will live on through all the members of his passport "family".

I will miss coming up the office stairs and being able to see Jim at his disk, hoping that he will give me “his” salute.   I will miss his laugh, his smile, his caring no-nonsense advice. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Hurricanes have lost one of their biggest fans.  I loved talking sports with Jim.  His Steelers and Hurricanes and my Redskins and Hokies were a constant source of fun and spirited discussion.

If Jim could not make you laugh, no one could. I'll bet if those of us who worked with Jim would stop to think about the most unforgettable characters in our working lives, he would be near or at the top of the list.  He had the unique ability to say things to people that others could not stand a chance of getting away with.  He was a great colleague and just a nice guy.

Aside from his most important roles as a great human being and a caring husband and father, Jim was one of the most effective individuals I ever worked with.  Let there be no doubt that he had his own unique approach to the situation at hand, but no one can argue that he ever let anyone down or failed to achieve the desired results.  We grew accustomed to counting on him and he always came through.

To his family, I can only imagine the void that has been created.  I am so sorry for your loss.  You are in my prayers at this most difficult time.

Uncle Jim was one of a kind, he is somebody I loved and respected dearly.  I learned so much from him from all the time we spent shooting pool and going to the Steeler games.  I will miss him greatly.

Jim was a wonderful person. He always have a smile and a kind word to say to me at the right time. I will always remember those memories of a great man.

Jim and I began in PPT just about the same time when PPT was a small family.  He always put himself 100% into whatever he did, and whether we agreed or disagreed (not often)) there was no mistaking his opinions or sincerity.  He set a high standard in everything he did for care and performance.  As PPT grew and he grew with it, he became an institutional presence; a person who knew the history, knew the players, and could be relied upon to solve nearly any problem. We were never close, but I had a world of respect for him, and always knew that he was part of the answer, not part of the question. It is sad that he was taken when he was just startting to enjoy his beloved family full time.  Rest in Peace.

I met Jim in 1971 and have always admired his straight forward approach to life.  I knew that I could always depend on Jim to come through with whatever was needed.  He was a master regardless of what the job or task! I learned so much from Jim and will always think of him as a brother, a friend and all around great guy.  My heartfelt sympathy to his family and other friends.  I will miss the many great times that we had!

I was sad to learn that Jim passed away.  He was definitely one of a kind and will surely be missed.  My prayers are with the family during this time.

Jim was an exceptional person and a dear friend.  He served his country and the Dept of State with zeal, honor, and integrity.  When we needed support as contractors for the Dept, we could count on Jim to make it happen.  He was great to work with and we truly enjoyed sharing a drink with him at the end of the day.  He will be missed.  Our prayers and heartfelt condolences to the family.

Jim was one of a kind.  I am just one of the many people who worked with him over the years who will miss him dearly.  He was a smart, funny man of action at work. Uncle Jim was a great man.  He loved his family and he stood up for what was right.  Beyond his tough exterior he was sincere, genuine and caring.  I'll never forget all the fun times we shared.

As I am sure he was for many people, he was like a second father to me while we worked together.  I could always depend on him for a laugh and he had one of the biggest hearts out of anybody I know.  He will be missed dearly.

Jim has so many friends and colleagues with cherished memories. Mine go back to the Washington Passport Agency and all those who he worked with then, particularly, his side-kick Everett Stannard who preceded him in death about one week. I can see the two now and what a smile that brings to my face. And certainly, smiles on their faces as well as they relive old and happy times at WN in the 70s.

I feel extremely fortunate to have gotten to know Jim long distance over the years.  He had a great sense of humor and even though we never got to spend much time face-to-face, he was such a force of nature that I came to see him as a good friend.  My condolences to his family - I'll miss him.

I joined his office just as he was retiring, so I did not know him too well.  But the little I did know of him was great, and made me feel lucky to have known him for the short time I did.  He obviously made a big impact on those he met.  Thanks, Jim.

Jim was a wonderful man and I know that is not news to you.  He had a way of making you always feel better about a bad situation.  He was so genuine and under that gruff exterior he was such a caring and tendor man. I can't believe he is gone - but I know it is on to heaven - he helped me though a very bad time by just listening.  I know he heard it to because he always asked how 'it' was going.
