John Firth was born in Bucks County near New Hope, Pennsylvania, the youngest of three children, and grew up on his parents farm. Leaving Pennsylvania, he moved to New York. In 1934 he met, fell in love with and married Lotte Eisner; his cherished wife of nearly 70 years. While in New York John held many different jobs, eventually becoming a machinist. In 1957 He brought his family to Virginia, as the machine shop manager for Sperry Marine. While in Virginia, he longed for the country life he so missed, and in 1961, decided to buy a farm house outside of Charlottesville. After approaching their later years, John and Lotte moved to Collington.He is survived by 2 of his 4 children, John M. Firth, III and Susan M. Firth, 8 loving grandchildren, Dorothy Smith; Isabella Shycoff; Charlotte Walsh; John Firth: Shawn Firth; Heather Firth; Vanessa Hendley; Helena Wetsel; and 10 great grandchildren; William Lachance; John Lachance; Anthony Maxwell Firth; Antonio Maxwell Firth; Gage Walsh; Virginia Walsh; Gordon Walsh;John Firth; Baylor Arehart and Miller Arehart. John was predeceased by 2 children, Robert A. Firth, and Allen E. Firth.
A Memorial service will be held for John M. Firth, Jr. on Wednesday October 20, 2010, 1:00PM at Collington Episcopal Life Care, 10450 Lottsford Rd. Mitchellville, Md.
