

Born May 11, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Margaret M. Goggin (O’Brian).
On September 7, 1968, he married the late Mary Louise Hanley, who passed away February 21, 2020. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage.
John was a 1954 graduate of St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC and a 1963 graduate of the University of Maryland. John retired from the Federal Government in 1997. John was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Patuxent Council No. 2203, in which he was Grand Knight, July 1986 through June 1987. He was a coach for the Laurel Boys and Girls club and a member of the varsity football coaching staff for St. Vincent Pallotti High School for many years.
John was an avid Washington Redskins fan who loved going to the games and would never leave a game early, no matter the score or how bad the weather was. He also loved to play golf, travel and spend time with friends and family.
John is survived by his son, John Edward Goggin, his daughter Liz Nearhoof and her husband Jim of Marriottsville; three grandchildren, Hunter and Tyler Sidle of Marriottsville, Brittany Todd of Indiana; three step-grandchildren, Justin, Nicholas and Cohen Nearhoof of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Patricia Shelton and her husband Richard of Bowie; brother-in-law John Hanley of Florida; three nieces and four nephews.
