Very shocked and saddened to hear of Bobs passing.  Bob,thank you for all you did for us at Short Stay Recreation Area at Joint Base Charleston.  Our  sailing program would have never gotten this far without your help.  Our Sailors and Airmen are grateful for the contributions you made over the years to get this off the ground. I was truly shocked to hear of Bob's passing.  He, Joe Union, and I were like the three musketeers in grammar school at St. Joseph's in Macon.  I frequently spent the night with Bob and his family in Dry Branch and we always had a great time.  My condolences to all the family, many of whom are my personal friends.  Bob will always be in my prayers and I pray that God will be with the family at the loss of their dear friend and family member.  We all truly loved him.

Our condolences go out to the Howe Family from all the members of IOBG District 5, Portland, OR.  I personally met Bob only three or four times as we traveled with Blue Gavel and yet I have felt a close connection with him. While in Annapolis last fall Bob took Margo and I on a tour of the Academy and around town then dropped us at the airport going home. I liked Bob very much and will miss him.

Nancy & I send our deepest sympathy to Bob's family at this difficult time. He was a valued member of the Blue Gavel family & will sorely be missed. Moreover, he was a dear friend.

Bob and I were both members  of US Naval Academy Sailing Squadron where he gave his time and energy to helping train the Mids. He will be missed.

I served as Vice President with Bob while he was President of the International Order of the Blue Gavel Humanitarian Foundation. He always conducted himself in a professional and caring manner. The Treasurer, Renee Gordon and I visited with him in Bowie after the passing of Carol Roman while he was still grieving. Bob introduced us at his yacht club where we received a warm reception, then whisked us off to his favorite Crab eatery for MD Blue's. Many at the foundation have expressed sorrow at his passing and expressed he will be surely missed.

Bob was a dear friend over the past 25 years to us. He provided us with an example of how to serve and always gave 110% to the Pentagon Sailing Club that he loved dearly. We will miss his laughter and guidance and pray to reunite with him in heaven where our Lord Jesus waits for us all.  Lynnette & Don

Bob was a Master Army Aviator and a retired Officer and gentleman who served his country well.  We were Aviation Maintenance Officers during our careers but never met until he founded Vets on the Bay.  He was instrumental in fostering the program to bring injured military veterans to the water and provide an alternative to their recuperation in the health care setting.  He was an active blue water sailor and a good person whose generosity and care-giving inspiration served us all well.  He was to be a Founding Brother of the Annapolis Table of the Brotherhood of the Coast to be inducted in August 2013; he will remain in our hearts and thoughts.

Sincere sympathies in Bob's passing. I rode the school bus with him for many years and was a fellow cadet at North Georgia. He will be missed.

I will cherish my memories of working with Bob to improve the lives of veterans, and their families, through Vets on the Bay.  A lovely man and a wonderful military officer.
