

Born in Eshbach he was the son of the late Sarah (Moll) and Elmer Herb.
Arthur was a graduate of Boyertown High School.
At his retirement Scoop held the position of District Justice for Colebrookdale Township.
Prior to that he had worked as a rural newspaper delivery man for the Pottstown Mercury, a machinist for Doehler Jarvis, he worked at the former Schultz Bakery and also was a vending machine supplier. He was also a former Berks County Constable, Deputy Sheriff, and had worked in the Berks County Coroner’s office. Scoop also, being an entrepreneur, started Herb’s Notary Service of Boyertown.; the former Scoops Taxi Service and Herb’s Storage World, Boyertown. He also owned and rented many homes, apartments and garages. Having also managed apartments for others. He also did private financing for others. After retirement Scoop worked for Kulp’s Rental and Gallagher Transport as a delivery man. He also was a trolley driver at many Boyertown area events. Scoop was the contributor and planner for “Scoops Way” at Boyertown Park and the pavilion at Gablesville AA. In the past he was a volunteer fire police and ambulance driver. He was a life member of Gablesville AA where he also had served as secretary. He was life member of the Friendship & Hook Ladder as well as the former treasurer. A life member of the Keystone Fire Company and a member of the Boyertown Orioles and Odd Fellows.
Scoop is survived by three daughters, Barbara E. McLain of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Raelynn wife of Kurt Hesser of Wyncote, PA and Jill M. Herb wife of Tom Lorah of Mohrsville, PA; two sons, Arthur Jay Herb and companion Liz Dasch of Boyertown and Arlen Ray and wife Sharon (Steel) Herb of East Berlin, PA; and a brother Homer, widower of Dorothy “Dottie” Herb of Sassamansville, PA.. He was survived by nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was loved by his predeceased grandsons. He was also predeceased by his long time companion Anna Mae Moser, and a brother Chester.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., 111 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown.
A viewing will be Tuesday, December 28, 2010 between 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown.
