Born in the family home in Bally. He was a son of the late Anna (Adam) and Elmer W. Gilbert, Sr.
He was employed by Fronheiser Pools for 17 years until his retirement on 2022, at Bally Ribbon Mills as a Dyer for 42 years and Erntex Knitting Mills for several years. In his younger years he worked for the local Bally orchards, at Ritters Grocery Store, Boyertown and learned carpentry and woodworking from his father.
Elmer also installed garage doors and openers for over 30 years, along with carpentry work in the area.
He served in the US Army from 1965-1967 serving in Korea on the DMZ.
Elmer enjoyed woodworking at his shop at home and restored more than a dozen Ford Mustangs with his brother in law Ted.
He is a Member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church,Bally and a life member Bally Fire Co.
Elmer enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sports and school activities.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey D. husband of Stephanie A. Gilbert of Boyertown and Jamie S. Gilbert of Boyertown. Grandchildren, Chloe, Brynn, Raife and Leyton all at home. Siblings, Ronald husband of Monica Gilbert of Bally and Donald husband of Sandra Gilbert of Boyertown. Along with many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Blessed Sacrament Church 610 Pine St. Bally, PA 19503. on Thursday April 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
Family and friends may call at church Thursday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Elmer's name to the Most Blessed Sacrament Organ Fund.
