Michael David Brown passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at home in Barto, PA. He was born in Allentown, PA on September 30, 1956 to Dr. Hugh E. Brown and Dorothy R. Brown. Mike attended Boyertown Area High School and obtained his GED in 1996. As a teenager, he had a knack for math which came in handy as he began work for Fanaro Flooring, until he graduated to his own business, Brown's Floor Coverings. A number of years ago, he liquidated and continued in floor covering via contractor jobs which gave him much more flexibility.
In the beginning he did live life on the wild side, but by God's grace was 37 years sober. He became an advocate for AA with his gentle way, No No No !!!, actually his "straight and right to the point manner!" Meetings helped him connect with his higher power who was Jesus.
He lived many places within driving distance of his original homestead in Barto. He almost succumbed to the lure of California, but plans changed. So he finally put down roots right back in the Village of Barto. Surely his dad would be proud that he purchased their property.
This is when his caregiver skills were utilized with his mom in hospice needing help living on her own. He also provided a place for his partner in life, Theresa Martin, when she suffered a stroke in her own home a few years ago and needed assistance too. Along with sponsoring in AA, he helped many throughout the years with his servant's heart.
His interests included skiing, motorcycles, camping, fishing, the shore, arrowhead hunting, gardening, canning, cooking, and more recently, foraging for mushrooms. His love for learning new things definitely stemmed from his mom.
Mike pretty much always had a devoted doggie jumping at his side. But cats seemed to have a 6th sense that he’d take care of them too. He would be seen feeding many strays that would find his side porch. He continued to feed the many generations of birds that lived nearby.
He was a master storyteller and lived a life backed up with adventures. We always told him he should write a book. It never happened because he had miles to go and people to care for before he slept (Robert Frost).
He was a member of the church and attended the school at Most Blessed Sacrament, Bally PA. And yes, he also served as an altar boy at age 7.
He is survived by his sisters Eileen B. Park (the late William E. Park, Jr.), Joanne M. Miller (Thomas P. Miller) and brother William E. Brown.
Also his nieces and nephews, Tricia Park Sambrano (husband Steve and Alex & Drew Dolaway & Layla and Eve Sambrano), Pamela Park Ardell (Quin and Vivienne), Holly Groves Allen (husband Tristan and Lilly, Caslon and Slate), Sarah Park Gessner (husband AJ and Asher), Danny Miller (wife Danielle and Declan and Adam), Devon Groves, Billy Park, Jackie Groves (husband Will DeHart and Elowyn), Candie Groves (husband Mike McKay and Collin, Wyatt, Griffin and Alora), and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Hugh E. Brown and Dorothy Rosser Brown, sister Teresa (Tibby) Brown Groves (Arthur), and nephew Thomas C. Miller.
Calling hours will be at 10:00am-11:30am on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church 610 Pine Street Bally PA 19503, with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:30am.
Burial will be private at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church cemetery at the convenience of the family.
