With deep sorrow and heartfelt reverence, we announce the passing of Maureen McQuilkin, who left us on April 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 25, 1933, in Greenock, Scotland, Maureen was a gift of love, embodying warmth, kindness, and an unwavering spirit throughout her 92 years.
Maureen was the eldest daughter of the late William and Grace Knox and shared her early years with her siblings, Jim, Anne, Maida, and her surviving brothers, William and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, David McQuilkin, with whom she shared 58 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they created a home that was the heart of countless family gatherings, filled with warmth, laughter, and at Christmas, Maureen's famous melting moment cookies.
Maureen and David's love story began in 1956, and together they built a family that became her greatest joy and proudest achievement. She leaves behind her loving children: David K. and his wife Mary; William A. and his wife Kathy; Annette McQuilkin; and Christine Cassin and her husband Frank. Her legacy also lives on through her beloved grandchildren, Gabrielle, David, Emma, and Nicole, who will continue to carry her spirit forward.
Maureen's life was a tapestry of varied interests and vocations, each woven with dedication and grace. From her early role as a WWII Royal Ordnance Factory process worker crafting cordite, to her time in retail at Sears' infant department where she delighted children as Winnie the Pooh, Maureen approached every job with enthusiasm. She also brought her meticulous nature to her husband's construction estimating company as a bookkeeper, ensuring everything balanced perfectly.
Her love for knitting and reading was well known, and for a time, she shared this passion with others through her own wool shop. Yet, it was the simple pleasures that often brought Maureen the most joy—a strong cup of tea paired with a shortbread cookie.
Maureen's kind spirit was her hallmark; she was a woman who never spoke ill of others, instead choosing to uplift and encourage those around her. Her unwavering positivity and nurturing nature were a beacon of light for all who knew her.
In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will honor Maureen's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause dear to her heart.
As we bid farewell to Maureen, we hold tight to the love and memories she leaves behind, grateful for the time shared and the lessons learned from her gentle, steadfast presence. May she rest in peace, and her spirit live forever in the hearts of those she touched.
