Richard Jessen Decker, 73, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024 after a long illness. One of 5 children, he was born April 7, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest son to Richard Joseph Decker and G. Johanna Jessen Decker. As a young man he received his Jr Pilot license, and was also an automotive enthusiast who enjoyed racing, repairing and restoring old cars.
Soon after graduating from Half Hollow Hills High School, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a Radar Specialist with a Rank of Buck Sergeant. After his honorable discharge from active duty in 1974, he began his career at Allstate Insurance Company, as an Adjuster, where he met his wife, Donna. They married in 1977. Over his 34 year insurance career Richard ultimately became an Allstate Insurance Exclusive Agent until his retirement in 2008. He loved to spend his free time traveling, visiting with his 3 boys and 5 grandkids and cheering on the old NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Donna; sons Rick, Bryan and Ken Decker; daughters in law Maureen, Shannon and Kristen Decker; sister Susan Dillon, brothers Mark, Todd and Paul Decker; grandchildren, Aidan, Beatrice, Quinten, Abigail and Theodore Decker; Father and Mother In law Frank and Mini Manjarrez and all of his beloved sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A small private family breakfast and service will be held at Robert Toale and Sons Celebration of Life Center in Lakewood Ranch. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery.
