Richard Lynn Moore was a 71-year-old avid family man who was dedicated to building relationships and making memories. He adored his wife, Gretchen, of 50 years. Their love-at-first-sight college romance blossomed into a family including three children: Renee, Diane, and Jason. He was then blessed with two sons-in-law, Randy and Chris, and with a daughter-in-law, Michelle. His family was enriched with seven grandchildren Bella, Caitlyn, Alaina, Abigayle, Aubrey, Ethan, and Hayden.
Richard was born to Irvin and Mary Moore in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on October 10, 1951. He was one of seven children: Ellen (deceased), Alice, Charles, Marjorie, Robert, and Elisabeth. Richard graduated from Gannon University in 1973 and Ashland College (MBA) in 1983. He went on to have a successful career in project management for information systems, which eventually led to a move to Florida.
Richard was a passionate outdoorsman. He enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Hunting trips with longtime friends to Holy Smokes Big Camp in Pennsylvania was something he looked forward to every October. Fishing excursions with buddies to the mouths of the Waccasassa and Suwanee Rivers were treasured times. Additionally, his son and sons-in-law would bond with him on fishing trips from his boat as well as on chartered deep-sea trips. Later in life, he picked up fly fishing and could be found tossing a line into the water behind his home in Parrish.
Throughout his life, Richard was very active in community and church organizations. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). He held office and served in various capacities for many years in both the Tampa and Manatee chapters. Ducks Unlimited also benefited from his leadership over the years. At Saint Stephen Church, Richard served as the Men's Club President. He was a founding member of the St. Stephen Men's Softball Team. Richard also served as lector for Sunday Mass.
Richard was a fixer, a doer, and an organizer. He was a fixer of cars, houses, and broken things. If he did not know how to do something, he would figure it out. He was a handyman of many talents who was always ready to tackle a project list. Richard was seldom idle and was always willing to help his family and friends. He was an organizer of countless family vacations and would not miss an opportunity to get his family together. Richard made it a point to be a consistent presence in his children and grandchildren’s lives.
Richard passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Richard’s presence will continue to be felt in the hearts and minds of all his loved ones from the collection of memories he made to share with those he loved.
