Ervin Nagy was born on May 1st, 1937 in Ujpest, Hungary. During the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, he moved to Toronto, Canada to start a new life.. Upon returning for a visit to Hungary in 1966, Ervin met and fell in love with Eva Romvalter . They were married in 1967 and had 2 children: Christopher, in 1974, and Erica, in 1976. In 2004, Ervin welcomed his first grandson, Sal, and in 2011 his second grandson was born, Andras.
Many describe Ervin as a hard worker and provider for his family. He took great pride in any job that he started, whether at work or at home. Even through his last days, he continually seeked to impart his considerable knowledge to family members in order to guide them. He had a great sense of humor and shared it with his work friends, playing practical jokes on each other. Ervin instilled a sense of responsibility and helpfulness to his children. He taught them to be self-sufficient, respectful and hard-working. This led him to be proud of his accomplishments and those of his children and grandchildren. As a provider, he was protective of his family and friends since they were very important to him. He loved to spend time with them, either in person or on the phone. Also, Ervin is described as a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend
He was proud of his Hungarian culture and family and placed special importance on staying connected with his family in Hungary, especially his sister, Marika, and his nephew, Karcsi.
Ervin enjoyed the outdoors, he spent time fishing, camping, swimming and water skiing. He loved animals, especially his dogs, Sandy and Ginger, and had a special place in his heart for Chris’ dog, Sprite. At home, he liked to visit garage sales and spend time in his workshop and garage fixing things. Every year, he would make kocsonya, a hungarian dish, and share it with his friends. Ervin looked forward to playing euchre, conversing and spending time with family and friends over a few beers or a glass of wine. His favourite tv shows included Columbo, Mr Bean, Just for Laughs Gags, soccer matches and hockey games.
Ervin always told his children, “There is a time and place for everything”, and so we accept that on August 13th 2015, it was his time and place to be called to heaven by God. We celebrate his life and we will miss him here with us, but we know he will look over us and guide us, at times, through the journey we each must take. We love you, Ervin.
If you knew Ervin and have any specific memories or you would describe him in a particular way, please share your thoughts and feelings so we can remember him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Ervin’s family had a history of cancer and he would want to help find a cure for the disease.
