We are so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was a great guy. I have many memories but one that stands out for me is the time we took apart his electric razor and after we put it back together it wasn't exactly perfect. He came into your room with his face cut to "ribbons" and bleeding quite badly. You know after all the years of mischief and growing up together that is the only time I ever remember him even raising his voice to us. Your house was a second home for me and your Dad and my second Mom always made me feel like family. I will never forget his horn blowing at our hockey games and his penchant for a good whiskey. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this difficult time.

Or also known as Ken, Dad, Papa, Papa Ken , John, Friend, Neighbour,  Brother Knight. 
A loved and respected man of faith, who was many things to the different people of his life: 
First and foremost; a beloved and devoted husband, father & grandfather.
A loyal, faithful and dependable friend.
 A kind hearted and generous man.  Always fast to dig into his pocket or offer a gift. 
A man with a strong love for his church who displayed much faith in prayer and the rosary.
 He was a loyal and devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, which encompassed a big part of his life. He enjoyed the friendships he made, opportunity for charitable work and the participation in church events that it brought to his life. 
He was a lover of animals (especially dogs). 
He displayed great love and devotion to his own pets and always considered them to be part of the family.
A lover of nature.
He was an avid bird watcher, who could tell you the names and could recognize the sounds of many different species.  Ironically he was a ``Snowbird himself``.
At the expense of worrying his family, and up until his 76th year, he looked upon his yearly ritual of driving down to Florida as an adventure.  This allowed him lots of cargo space to return home with many great bargains and treasures, which he enjoyed presenting to his family and friends as gifts. 
 He enjoyed telling the tales of his trips to and from Florida  –  and especially of the exchanges which took place between him and the customs officers.  And of the lightning speed which it took him to get there and back, much to the dismay of his family. 
It was only in his 76th year that we finally convinced him that flying is better than driving.  Unfortunately he never did get the opportunity to take his 1st flight down to Florida, although up until recently he was still determined that he was going to make it down there this year.  
A ``handy man``   a ``Jack of all trades`` a ``Mr. Fix it`` .
He enjoyed building things and was good at it.
 As many of you know it wasn`t too long ago he installed a complete and luxurious bathroom in his basement. The bathroom included a ``steam shower with a phone which also allowed you to listen to music while showering.  He was rightfully proud of his bathroom and especially of the shower.   After it was initially finished, no visitor to the house was able to leave, without getting ``the grand tour`` of the bathroom 1st.   His eldest Grandson,  Ryan got the privilege of being the 1st to try it out.  
This bathroom was a truly remarkable accomplishment for a man in his mid 70`s. He was also quick to invite anyone who was willing, to try it out.
He built a beautiful extension on his cottage, near Parry Sound, where he loved spending time with his family and whereby over the years they made many lasting friendships with residents and fellow cottagers from the Parry Sound area and Ardagh Island. 
He was a strong and determined man, mentally and spiritually.
HE WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR HIS FAMILY AND HIS FRIENDS
If the going got rough;  in times of need;  to lend an ear;  offer good and sound advice and/or comfort .   He had a gift of offering a positive word, a word of hope and of making you realize that things aren`t so bad, after all. 
 He was quick to remind you to pray and to have faith in God and by doing so, things would work out exactly how they were meant to be.
He wouldn`t hesitate to visit a sick friend, lend a helping hand to fix or install something, or to offer financial assistance or charity.  He was always fast at digging into his pocket.
He was a charitable man, a community man, a man of God. His Grandson Ryan , when in  grade _3_ , wrote a sincere story about his papa and strongly stated that his Papa should have been a priest and went on to explain why. We all got a great kick out of the story (including papa).  At such a young ages, Ryan and Jack already knew their papa quite well.  
If he was going to do something, he insisted on doing it right and finishing it to the end even if it was a gruelling or unpleasant job.  He enjoyed succeeding.
Some of his achievements, hobbies and pass times over his life included:
 Showing and breeding cocker spaniels -  some of which turned out to be champions.  One was his beloved dog whiskey.
He achieved his black belt in Judo – his best advice for method of defence - ``kick him in the knee cap``.
He loved big band music and ballroom dancing.   He played the harmonica and the piano by ear and was good at it. He loved sing songs. 
On Christmas Eve, from his hospital bed, even though very ill, he managed to  accompany  Clair`s partner, Michael,  as he sang Christmas carols and other songs and played classical guitar for him. This brought great happiness not only to him, but to his family that surrounded him, the nurses and other hospital staff and visitors as they joined in singing, clapping and even dancing.
Family get togethers for holidays, birthdays and anniversaries brought him great happiness.  The sing alongs were the icing on the cake for him.  He also had a great appreciation for Anne`s cooking and of the sweets and deserts that were part of the tradition.  Though he will be desperately missed on these occasions, we are confident that he will always be there with us in spirit.
He was a table tennis champion and also a squash player in his younger days.
 He found great peace, while puttering in his garden and had a green thumb when it came to growing roses.
He had served for a term, as Grand Knight of the 4th Degree and member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was the Toronto Blue Jays Number One fan.  One of his favourite pastimes, while in Florida, was going to watch the grapefruit league on practice mornings and also attending their games.  Being the outgoing and friendly person he was, he got to know and even became friends with many of the team members and some of their families, whom he welcomed into his Florida home to sample some of Anne`s great cooking.
He retired with the golden handshake, after 27 years of service to Ontario Hydro.
He loved telling stories and would talk anyone’s ear off, who was willing to listen.
He had a great sense of humour which he managed to keep, even when he was very ill. 
First thing on the agenda for a suitor who wanted to date one of his daughters would be to take them down stairs to his work room and show them his shot gun. This was no joke to him and it was never meant to be funny. 
 He got a great kick out of playing jokes on people.   Over our younger years as children, he proved to be an expert at pulling his thumb off for us and finding money behind our ears. A skill which he continued to display with his grand children.  
He was a bright, honourable hard working and intelligent man. A sound, reliable and dependable man.
He had a strong belief and faith in God, forgiveness of sin and everlasting life.
Dad, your spirit will forever live in the hearts of your family and friends, as our spirits will forever live in yours.
  You will be forever loved and missed.

Dear Annie, Carolyn,Clair,Andrew & Families,

We were devestated to hear the news of Ken's passing.  Those of us who have been privilidged to share in his life the past few years will feel the void. Ken was one of the first people to welcome us to Doral, and from the very beginning we felt like one of the family.
We especially looked forward each year for the special invitation to the St. Paddy's Day Party.  Although Ken was not Irish, he could sure " shoot the Blarney" and polish off the whiskey as well as any Irishman!!  For us St. Paddy's Day will never be the same. We will miss his rendition of Danny Boy but will think of HIM with fondnes whenever we hear it played.  

Ken was always envious of Annie's position as VP of the Doral Purple Martin Society, although he was offered a position on the board, he was never quite satisfied with the title offered. Effective immediately, he now holds the title of Honorary Chairman and Guardian Angel. We're looking forward to a great colony this year with Ken in charge.

Let me tell you a little story about this man. Anne, Ken, Jan and I were visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake and Jan expressed delight about a wind chime...So of course Ken bought it for her...and then she lost it.  Ken turned right around and bought her another. No recrimination, no fuss, Just got another so she woudn't be distraught.  A rough old gentleman, generous to the extreme, good, kind and honest. He certainly leaves this world a better place and will surely enter an even better one. Jan & Ray Ellis..
