He is preceded in death by his Father, Archibald Currie and his Mother, Agnes (ne McManus); Brothers, Archie, Jr., and John (Jack); and Sisters, Audrey (Rochford) and Patricia (Webb).
Stan is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth (Liz) DeLaughter (Larry) (grandchildren: Jake of Atlanta, GA, and Laura Puchalik (daughter Taryn; preceded in death on 15/2/13) and Avalon (two great grandchildren, Layla and Wade) of Clark’s Summit, PA. He is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews, and was especially close to Bruce and Sharron Rochford, their two sons, Jason and Jamie (Chele) as well as their children.
Happily married to Helen Elson for 20 years (1988-2008), they enjoyed playing tennis year-round and were members of the Chinguacousy Tennis/Health Club. When Helen became critically ill, Stan spent virtually every day by her hospital bedside from 2005-2008 when she passed away.
Stan worked for Bell Canada for more than 40 years, working his way up to Quality Assurance Inspector. He continued to work part-time for them for several years after when he officially retired in the early ‘90’s.
Even though he was a single Dad raising to two daughters in Brampton in the 1970’s/‘80’s, Stan found time to learn the “fine art” of Disco Dancing (LOVED the Bee-Gees/“Saturday Night Fever”) (Also: Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra and all the Crooners).
Resultantly, he taught his daughters to appreciate the classic movies and music.
Stan coached Laura in softball for a season and coached both girls in their bowling teams at Avondale Bowling. Stan was also devoted to Liz’s participation in Chinguacousy Rep Softball/Fast-Pitch, never missing a game, tournament or practice for more than 10 years. He also made the time to take his daughters to movies, professional sporting events, and restaurants in downtown Toronto.
Heavily involved in sports, himself, Stan loved his time on the tennis court, baseball diamond, and ice rink, playing left-wing on the “Hangovers” (LOL) hockey team. The Hangovers often played poker together as well.
Stan will be missed for his entertaining/sentimental long, long-distant call conversations; his quick Irish wit; his knowledge of sports, entertainment and music; and his infectious laugh.
In recent years, he prayed the Prayer of Salvation, accepting Jesus as his Savior.
