He was born in Fulton, KY to the late Beulah Cheatham and J.D. Britt.
He is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Bernice Britt; his son Brice; Brother Johnny and grandson Bernie Wayne. Bernie is survived by his son Ellis D Britt, daughters Pamela Wilton, Sonja Brannon, and Teresa (Ben) Taliaferro; sisters Myra (Bernie) Hoffman, Linda Jane (Jesse) Adcock, Diana Burpo Courter; brother Terry (Bonita) Burpo; nine grandchildren Tina, Mark, Harley, Nick, Monica, Bobby, DeWayne, Tyler and Tristan; and six great grandchildren.
