

He is survived by his son, John Eric Blomquist, and wife, Julie Hunter Wallace, of Brandon; daughters Julie Blomquist of Sarasota and Susie Burns Blomquist of Brandon, daughter-in-law Lori Felker Blomquist of Gibsonton; grandson John Eric Blomquist, Jr. and wife, Chloe Blomquist, of Brandon; sister Sarah Ann Chauvin of Baton Rouge; and granddog and companion, Samantha “Sammie” Sue.
Carl was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Sharlene Burns Blomquist, parents Carl Wheeless Blomquist, Sr. and Bessie Cannada Blomquist, sister Joyce Gibbes, and son, Carl Wheeless Blomquist, III.
Carl was born in Vicksburg, Miss. and raised in Port Gibson, Miss., where his grandfather, Josef Sanfrid, father, Carl Wheeless Blomquist, and uncle, George Wheeless were involved with the Port Gibson Oil Works and the Port Gibson Bank.
Carl graduated high school at Columbia Military Academy in Tennessee. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and flew as a navigator in F-89 jets in the 18th Fighter Interceptor Squadron during the Korean War, based in Fairbanks, Alaska.
He received a bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech University and a master’s degree in mathematics from the Florida Institute of Technology.
He and Sharlene Burns married in 1959, making homes in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida. Carl worked for RCA, as part of the NASA Apollo Space program, and GTE Data Services, retiring from Paradyne Corp. as a senior systems analyst. Carl and Sharlene operated Cedar Tree Farm in Brandon and together they grew a successful wholesale nursery business for over 20 years.
He was an avid deer, dove and squirrel hunter. Carl loved his farm in Madison, Fla., riding multiple tractors, baling hay, and growing corn and peaches.
Carl and his family were blessed to have the services of Lifepath Chapters Health, allowing Carl to remain at home, and they are so thankful for Jessica, who brought the brightest light to Carl’s day.
There will be a graveside service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026 in Rehobeth Baptist Cemetery, Pushmataha, Alabama, followed by a gathering at the family homestead in Pushmataha.
