DEMPSEY, Daniel John, Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Army (Ret.), 68, of Valrico passed away April 10, 2012. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. He was an area resident since 1986 coming from Hawaii. He was a Bronze Star recipient and retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service. Daniel also retired as a financial planner with Ameriprise. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Miller. Daniel is survived by his Life Partner of ten years, Luz Cliggitt; son, Peter J. Dempsey; two daughters, Catherine Connelly and husband Russ, and Michelle Dempsey; two grandchildren, Alex Connelly and Brooke Connelly; brother, James Dempsey; sister, Janet Dempsey; and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon, Florida with a graveside service with full military honors following at 1:00 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
