Mom spent her early years growing up, and playing, along Bayshore Boulevard, and then Armenia Avenue. She attended the Salvation Army church in Tampa with her parents and two brothers. Mom graduated from Plant High School in 1948. She married J. I. “Buddy” Mills on July 2, 1955, and they raised four children, two sons and two daughters. Betty, as she was affectionately called by her friends, was a Homemaker, and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lutz for many years. She later became a Charter Member of Van Dyke United Methodist Church. Mom spent the last 14 years of her life living in Seffner, Florida, being taken care of by her son, Charles and his wife Julie. The family would also like to thank her Senior Helper’s caregiver Kayon for the wonderful care she provided.
After Dad retired, Mom and Dad loved to travel all over the United States. Their favorite time of year to travel was right after Labor Day, when all the kids were back in school, and the highways were less crowded. During the course of their travels, they visited all 48 of the lower contiguous states, a lot of them (especially their beloved “out west”) several times each. They visited every National Park and nearly every National Monument and countless museums in the lower 48. They also loved to spend a week in the mountains of North Carolina every October.
They enjoyed sharing their travels with their friends and family, most notably; Mom’s cousin Barbara, and her husband, Rufus, and also Mom’s brother Bob, and his wife, Betty and their good friends, Fred and Irene Jones and Ray and Mickey Bowen.
