

Frederick William Grant, beloved husband of Marjorie Grant, was born on February 10, 1922 in the Parish of St. Catherine, Kingston, Jamaica, and West Indies. He was one of fourteen children born to Walter Grant and Isadora Gray. Fred first came to the United States in 1943 with his brother, Roger Grant. Fred met Marjorie Barnes, of New York, in January,1947; swept her off her feet and they were united in holy matrimony on June 29, 1947. Fred and Margie have been happily married for sixty three (63) years. Fredwas the owner of the first Black hardware store in Jamaica, New York in the 1950s. Fred was very enterprising and he started a variety of businesses including a full-service barber shop which he owned and operated during the 1960’s. Fred accepted full-time employment with the State of New York in the 1970s and he retired in 1983.The union of Fred and Margie was blessed with four children, Doreen, Rhonda, Kevin and Tyrone. Immediate family and extended family were the most important part of Fred’s life and he opened his heart and home to his relatives, friends and strangers. Everyone called him Uncle Freddy, whether they were a related or not. The Grant’s home, at 120-09 153rd Street in Jamaica, New York was the favorite gathering place for relatives, friends and extended family because of warm welcome and kind hospitality that Uncle Freddy gave to everyone. Fred and Margie moved to Valrico, Florida in 2008. Mr. Frederick William Grant departed this earthly life on January 6, 2011, leaving to cherish his memory, his beloved wife: Marjorie Barnes Grant, four Children, Tyrone, Kevin, Rhonda and Doreen, Sister Mabel Ellis of Birmingham, England, brother Ferdinand Grant of Jamaica, W.I. , sister-in-law Viola Grant of Port St. Lucie, Florida, niece Lorna E. Grant of Ramsey, New Jersey and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Fredrick Grant was predeceased by sisters Catherine Adkins, Isimenda Grant, Florence Small-Grant, and Viola Grant; brothers: Cyril Grant, Coolie-Man Grant, Donald Grant, Louis Grant, Arnold Grant and Leonard Grant.Arrangements under the direction of Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon, FL.
