He is survived by his companion, Ruth Peck; son, William (Carla) of Crystal Springs, Fla.; daughter, Juanita of Van Etten, N.Y.; several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of more than 60 years, Elsie; daughter, Helen Kellogg (Edward) of Ithaca, N.Y.; two sons, Richard (Donna) of Trumansburg, N.Y., Robert (Sally) of Lakeland, Fla.
After a 3 year stint with the Army Air Corp after the end of World War II, he returned home to Ithaca where he worked at numerous professions over the years. In his early 50's he got the chance to work at the job he truly loved, driving over the road. His love of rolling down highways and always seeing a new view gave him a sense of belonging. For the last years before their retirement he and Elsie drove as a team, covering as many as 5000 miles a week. Even during his retirement he hauled building material on a trailer he built himself and moved rental trucks.
Per his wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, January10, 2017 in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, Brandon, Fla. (casual dress please). The service will be followed by a celebration of his life to be held at the Crystal Springs Community Center. Please join us to swap stories and experiences.
