Helene was born on June 5, 1937 in Hackensack, New Jersey. In Helene’s own words, she lived a long and wonderful life. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, she earned her RN license and became a skilled and compassionate nurse for 50 years. She later went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and worked in management at University Community Hospital/Florida Hospital, and eventually worked as a volunteer there after her retirement in 2001, when it became Advent Health.
Helene was blessed to find 2 great loves in her life. Her first husband Dennis Golabek, with whom she had 4 children, and later her second husband Skip Steinbrick, with whom she gained 2 step-daughters. Helene exemplified what it means to live a life of love and service. Throughout her nursing career she served thousands of patients lovingly and with expert care. Later on, she volunteered not only at the hospital, but at Nativity Catholic Church with her St. Francis Circle, whom she loved, and helped at the Nativity Food Pantry and Nativity Catholic School as well. Helene loved to travel and cruise, and was blessed to visit countries around the world with her family. Helene was the brightest light that shined for everyone who knew and loved her. Her faith, fun attitude, and silliness were contagious. Helene always wore a beautiful smile, had the most positive attitude, and never said a bad word about anyone. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and forever.
Helene is survived by her loving children Sue C. Golabek (Doug), Joyce McFaul, Theresa Holden (Scott), and Dennis Golabek (Fran), and step-daughters Karen Soros (Michael) and Janice Garry (Mike). She is also survived by her 17 amazing grandchildren including Amy, Kelly (Matt), Julie, Jeffrey (Darya), Joel, Jacqueline, Justin, James, Alex, Cassie, Marai, Tripp, and step-grandaughters Nicole (Ryan), Jessica, Morgan, Alexis and Jaime, and great-grandchildren Jaxson and Michael. She is also survived by her loving brothers Richard and Robert and many wonderful neices and nephews. Helene will be greeted in Heaven with “Well done, oh good and faithful servant.”
