Hugh Williams ascended to heaven on October 21, 2010. Hugh was born in Charleston West Virginia on May 15, 1918. He was the youngest of 8 children born to Stella and Ben Williams. Hugh attended The University of Kentucky and West Virginia University. He was employed by Western Electric and retired when he was 57 years old. Hugh married a beautiful and gentile lady, Agnes Withrow Williams, on December 25, 1940. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage and had three daughters; Beverley Ann Shell (Dallas), Diana Agnes Shamblin and Michelle Williams Taylor (Doug). Hugh and Agnes were a striking couple. Hugh has 8 grandchildren; Leigh Ann Shell, Lisa Houck, David Shell, Susan Shell, Kris Akers, Brock Shamblin, Kyle Taylor and Benjamin Taylor. He has 8 great grandchildren; David Coiner, Kaity Marler, Annie Houck, Sydney Houck, Cassie Shell, Cole Shell, Chaz Shell and Andrew Akers. He has 2 great-great grandchildren; Gracie Del Papa and Charlie Coiner. His parents, all of his siblings and his beloved wife, Agnes, predeceased Hugh. He was known as Paw Paw by his grandchildren and even by some friends in the community. Hugh was active until 2 ½ months ago when some ill health began to plague him. He owned his own home, drove his creme colored Cadillac and traveled. He loved the hills of West Virginia. He had a quick wit, a sharp mind and compassion for those less fortunate. Hugh was a wonderful provider and financial planner. He loved his family and was proud of each and every member of his family. Hugh’s intellectual ability was admirable. He was able to recite Shakespeare’s sonnets from his college days until 2 months before his death. He had many friends and had quite a charismatic personality, which captured those that he met. Hugh loved his church, The First Baptist Church of Brandon and especially enjoyed his Sunday school class. As he fell ill his daughters began to realize how many people’s lives he had touched within the community and how many contacts he had made. He delivered many a “box of chocolates” to those that helped him with his business or were kind to him. An old song best describes the man he was; “ I Did It My Way”. Visitation will be Monday, October 25, from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 26, at 11 AM both at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.
