

Jonathan is survived by his children, Elmer, Damaris, Tirza, David, Beatriz, and Sarai; and his siblings, Narcisa, Cresencia, and Dina. He is preceded in death by his daughter Noemi, son Milton, and wife Maria. Jonathan was born on December 25, 1937 in San Isidro, Concepcion las Minas del Departamento de Chiquimula, Guatemala to Cruz and Fernanda Hernandez.
He married Maria Teresa Hernandez Martinez, his childhood sweetheart and eternal love in 1962 until death due parted in 2022. The couple welcomed eight children into their home who gave them 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and Jonathan was set about teaching them the way of the Lord. His children remember him as a God fearing, focused, high achiever, and driven father who encouraged them to pursue their education.
After moving to Illinois in 1970, Jonathan achieved his US Citizenship, which in turn opened the doors for his immediate and extended family to become citizens as well. Jonathan worked for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) were he worked for over 20 years. Jonathan was a talented musician and could often be found singing and playing away on his mandolin.
He was a dedicated individual who loved the Lord and who was passionate about praying and reading Gods word early each morning. He was an active and dedicated member of the Church, Templo La Hermosa and known for the Tuesdays morning prayer group, Planta Energia. A private celebration of life is being held in his memory by his family and close friends. The family would like to thank Vitas Healthcare and DaVita for their care and dedication.
A visitation for Jonathan will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hillsboro Memorial, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511.
