Jonathan Richard West

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of

Jonathan “John” R. West on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the age of 94 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Lillian Jeanette West of Dover, Florida. He met his beloved bride in Jamestown, Kentucky at the local soda fountain. They were married a short time later on June 13, 1951.

Jonathan leaves behind three children, Stanley H. West (Jackie) of Dover, Deborah J. Smart (Ron), of Kissimmee and Jane C. Nails (Jeffrey) of Titusville, Nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews; all of which he loved and adored. He was preceded in death by his parents (Ruth Greene and James West), two brothers (J. T. and James Oliver) one sister, (Ruth Mae) and one daughter in law (Leslie).

John was an amazing father who believed in family first. His legacy included 37 descendants and his message was "Take them to Church". After raising their children and his retirement from Boilermakers Local #433, he and Lillian enjoyed traveling, worshipping, serving, and just being grandparents. They were always together. He loved music; opera, hymns, the big bands and even a little country. Most importantly, above anything, he loves Jesus and is a committed Christian who was actively involved with his church, serving God. He was a member of the Christian Church for over 60 years. He also proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be held at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11:00 am. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will begin at 12 noon. Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery are located at 2323 West Brandon Boulevard, Brandon, Florida 33511.
