Juan Carlos Montalvo, 24, of Valrico, FL passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. He was born in Hialeah, FL on Dec. 5, 1989 to Carlos Heriberto Montalvo and Zulma Iris Colon. Born with a severe iron deficiency, Juan received the diagnosis of not being expected to live to see his first birthday. Juan utilized his gift of life throughout graduating from Bloomingdale HS with honors, earning an A.A. degree from HCC and finally completing a Bachelors of Arts degree in Criminology from USF, (in Tampa) with the intent on becoming a U.S. Secret Service agent. Juan was also an employee of Tampa General Hospital, where he worked and excelled at delivering excellent patient care through his happy and compassionate dispositionfor five years at the Ambulatory Division’s Pediatric Clinic. Juan was often seen laughing and connecting with many of his fellow employees as well as the clinic’s physicians and numerous patients. Juan also achieved the rank of third dan black belt in the style of Ronin Goju Ryu and was an avid martial arts student and fan. He was a caring, kind-hearted young man, wrapped in a strong and capable shell; truly worthy of his nickname: “Superman”. He will be missed, greatly. He is survived by parents: Carlos Heriberto Montalvo and Zulma Iris Colon of Valrico; as well as brothers: Jonathan Jose Montalvo and Carlos Jose Montalvo of Valrico.
