

During WWII, Katie worked as a welder in the Tampa Bay shipyards. She was our very own Rosie the Riveter! Talented at every endeavor, Katie was an award winning quilter, talented cook, baker, gardener, and Tupperware sales representative. Katie also worked for the Hillsborough County School System as a Kindergarten Aide.
Devoted to her faith Katie made sure to instill the value of faith in her family. She also volunteered her time with many church camps and functions. She especially enjoyed traveling to Tennessee in the summers for an annual Gospel Sings. Annually Katie helped raise money to donate bikes for missionary workers in India. She was an active member at Bell Shoals Church of Christ, and spent many years serving in the former Mango Church of Christ.
Katie is survived by her daughter, Gloria J. Rigdon (Ed); son, James E. Watkins (Jennie); five grandchildren, Jeannie West (Ray), Teresa Morris (Greg), Earl Griffin, David Watkins (Cheryl) and Philip Watkins (Christy); 13 great-grandchildren, Allen (Rachel), Brittany, Nathan, Samantha, Catherine, Elizabeth, Holly, Tyler, Marisa, Cecilia, Xander, Zack, and Zane.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 year, James V. Watkins.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-7pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 with services to follow at 7pm at Bell Shoals Church of Christ 2908 Bell Shoals Rd, Brandon, Florida 33511. Interment will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Limona Cemetery.
